This article focuses on the Laureate's Sterling Editions Language Starter Package. Over the past twenty years, as the knowledge of language grew so did the understanding of how very small children manage to master the intricacies of language. The increased understanding of how typically developing children acquire language has helped in the design of improved language intervention programs for those children struggling with language development. From its inception, generative grammar has been concerned with not only adult knowledge of language but also how language is acquired. Moreover, using language intervention software with non-professional adult assistance, children with special needs in the early stages of language acquisition can make language gains comparable to those seen during individual language therapy with a speech-language pathologist. |
