Abstrakt: The author offers insights on the refusal of U.S. governors to approve the broad humanitarian release of elderly inmates in the midst of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Topics discussed include the June 2020 court ruling against the proposed prison release of activist Jalil Muntaqim, the COVID-19 cases reported by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYSDOCCS), and the public safety concerns being considered prior to humanitarian release.
