Abstrakt: The article presents an overview of allergens. An allergen is characterized by its ability to induce an Immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated immune response with an associated clinical reaction in an individual. Most allergens are proteins or glycoproteins that range in molecular weight from 5000 to 60,000 Da, although polysaccharides and low molecular weight substances also may be allergenic. Typically, an allergen is a protein or glycoprotein that can induce an IgE-mediated immune response with an associated clinical reaction.
