The article presents information of a national seminar on the role of social movement in context of development. The seminar was held at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. The underlying theme of the various papers and discussions was an exhortation to social scientists to undertake serious explorations into the interconnections between social movements and the process of development in India. It was observed that the role of women in society has not been properly evaluated. Women, through their domestic chores add to the national income. The article views that measure should be undertaken to correct the injustices, which have been perpetrated in the name of scriptures, traditions and cultural mores. Some of the participants who attended the seminar are, S.P. Nagendra, T.K. Oommen, J.V. Raghavendra Rao, J.K. Tiwari, Asha Malhotra, H.C. Srivastava, Om Prakash, S.D. Tripathi, G.S. Nepali, Shri Nath Sharma. The seminar was inaugurated by Y.B. Damle and the valedictory address was delivered by S.K. Srivastava. |
