The article remembers the first African American explorers in Yellowstone National Park in Montana. Information is provided about the African American men who participated in the Washburn-Langford-Doane Expedition including cook John Butler, Newton Nicholas and Radical Republican Henry Dana Washburn. Also noted is the underuse of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) by racial minorities despite its goal to dedicate agency resources to racial and ethnic inclusivity. |
