Abstrakt: The blood platelet level and the excretion of 5 hydroxy-indo-lacetic acid (5-HIAA) were determined before and several times after provocation in 14 patients with nasal allergy. The platelet level was constant. The urinary 5-HIAA/creatinine ratio was found to increase, but it also increased in control experiments without provocation. Both series included water loading to obtain sufficient urine for analysis. A correlation between the urinary 5-HIAA/creatinine ratio and volume was found, indicating that excretion of 5-HIAA increases to a greater extent with increasing diuresis, than does creatinine excretion.
