Studies on serial killings and its causative factors are still on its infancy. We have numerous incidence of serial killings reported from all over the world. Yet, there are very few studies conducted on this issue and therefore, our wisdom regarding the causes of serial killing is compromised. Of the few studies conducted in western countries, the childhood seems to be one crucial factor in the making of a serial killer This article provides with a snippet view of the problematic childhood of some known serial killers around the world and discusses the contributory effect of these problems in the making of a serial killer The article finally concludes by explaining how the defense mechanism which strengthened the child to push through the adversaries in the childhood later triggers serial killings and how baffled the society as a whole to meet the monster that it created.
