The Halifax explosion of December 1917 proved highly traumatic for Minnie and Stewart Ross, a working-class couple living in the city's North End. All four of their children died, Minnie was left with severe physical and psychological injury, while winter-time exposure triggered Stewart's latent tuberculosis. This article explores the efforts made by staff of the Halifax Relief Commission to assist these two victims of disaster as they struggled to regain a measure of normality prior to their eventual departure from Nova Scotia to New England.
