Gene testing for familial cancer, such as familial adenomatous polyposis and familial breast-ovarian cancer, recently became available. Newly discovered techniques provided improved early detection of cancers and cancer prevention. They also pose potential medical, psychological, and other personal hazards in at-risk persons and their kindreds, including many types of possible discrimination and stigmatization of genetic inferiority. Bioethical considerations in all these matters are essentially important and are discussed in this chapter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
