An image pattern search method based on DP matching for detecting accurate pattern positions.

Abstrakt: This paper presents a search method on the basis of the dynamic programming (DP) technique in image processing. The method is based on template matching between a template image and an input image. To apply DP to the matching process, 2-D images are transformed into 1-D data by making vertical and/or horizontal projection profiles. Only feature points extracted from reference projection profiles are used in DP matching in order to make the matching process fast. We also present an accurate pattern position detection method for use in investigating paths selected in the DP matching process. We have implemented our method in a vision system. Experimental results for several different kinds of data, including patterns generated by CG, and actual images, demonstrate that the method has sufficient processing speed and detection accuracy. © 1998 Scripta Technica, Syst Comp Jpn, 29(4): 22–32, 1998 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
