Abstrakt: Articles and monographs based on North Caucasian reality look like tiny islands in the ocean of studies of institutional trust, which explains the geographical bias of the present article. Institutional trust is the main condition for the consistent functioning of any political system, for a consistent dialog with civil society, and for the development of democratic institutions. We analyzed people's trust in the President of the Russian Federation, the government, and the local power structures, identified the indirect indicators of the degree of institutional trust in the region, and certain destructive factors that undermine trust in the ethnic and regional elites as a subject of political administration: (corruption, protectionism, the shadow economy, biased clergy, etc.), and described the measures needed to increase trust in the state institutions and political elites.
