STUDY ON ADOPTION OF RECOMMENDED PRACTICES OF LITTLE MILLET CULTIVATION AMONG TRIBAL FARMERS IN TIRUVANNAMALAI DISTRICT.

Abstrakt: The present research was framed to find out the extent of adoption of recommended little millet (samai) cultivation technologies of tribal farmers in Thiruvannamalai district. Among 32 districts in Tamil Nadu, Tiruvannamalai District was selected purposively for this study since it is one among the districts where little millet (samai) is cultivated in more area by tribal farmers. The study was conducted in four villages of Thiruvannamalai district namely Kovilur, Veerappanur, Eriyur and Palamarathur from Jawadhu hills. The sample size consisted of 120 respondents selected from these villages by proportionate sampling method. The respondents were interviewed personally by a well-structured and pre-tested interview schedule. The statistical tools of mean, standard deviation, cumulative frequency and percentage analysis were used to analyze the collected data. The major findings of this paper are on adoption level of tribal farmers andcategorized based on their overall adoption levelviz., low (21.70 per cent), medium (57.50 percent) and high (20.80 per cent).The findings were meaningfully interpreted and relevant conclusions were drawn.
