Abstrakt: This particular facet of the relationship between the French military and the Catholic rite of the Christian religion goes back to middle ages, when each trade found itself a patron saint. Since the Second World War, arms, corps and services have chosen their own official patron saint. While the French Republic embrace religious freedom and respect the separation between church and state, on patron saints days, military traditions, folk customs and religious rituals mix.
