This article presents information on the book "Building Learning Communities in Cyberspace: Effective Strategies for the Online Classroom," written by R.N. Palloff and K. Pratt. The book explores computer-mediated distance education, along with the benefits, problems, and concerns inherent in it. The writers point out that computer-media distance learning poses enormous challenges to instructors and theft institutions. Pan one of the eleven-chapter book, which covers chapters one through five, is about developing a distance education framework. Part two provides an experiential guide for creating an effective electronic learning community. The first two chapters address issues related to teaching and learning in an online environment and explore the importance of building community. The writers found that along with educational issues, instnictors using electronic communication for education also experience a whole new set of physical, emotional, and psychological issues. |
