Abstrakt: Chronic constipation is a prevalent gastrointestinal motility disorder, which may be primary (idiopathic) or due to secondary causes. Although chronic constipation is not a life-threatening condition, it has a negative impact on patients' daily activities and quality of life. This article examines chronic constipation in adult patients with emphasis on the main causes, diagnosis and treatment options, including the pharmacological and non-pharmacological management. Patient education and counselling to improve treatment outcomes are also discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
