Abstrakt: Allied health schools are in a unique position to promote faculty development and provide real- life learning experiences for students through community service. Many historically black colleges and universities are located in neighborhoods where the poverty, unemployment, and uninsured rates are above average, and residents often have limited access to healthcare services. Mobile clinics can provide vital health services and the convenience of proximity where transportation may not be readily available. They can reduce the use of emergency rooms when illnesses are identified and treated early. This paper describes the steps taken to acquire and operate a mobile clinic in the East Winston community of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, by the faculty, staff, and students of Winston-Salem State University. Highlighting the phases from conception to implementation, lessons learned are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
