Abstrakt: The article, on the basis of survey data and by working with synthetical cohorts, had reconstructed career lines for the entire Dutch labor market. The mobility patterns associated with occupational groups and labor market segments have been found to be strongly related to the career stage, a fact that goes unnoticed if all the mobility is aggregated into one whole. "Where a job leads is very much a function of age", sociologist S. Spilerman stated when introducing the concept. In author's opinion, this starting point has proven extremely fruitful in the present analysis. In most cases, the career lines distinguished by occupational groups and segments proved to be very well interpretable. They presented a number of interesting patterns that confirmed or enriched one's knowledge and understanding of labor market mobility. It was also noted that the effect of age on the career does not follow a straight function in all respects, which means there are some regularities that can not be detected through linear modeling. After some adaptation, the career-line concepts sociologist K.I. Spenner et al. proposed have proved to be relevant for labor market analysis. Age composition, continuity, channeling, etc. seem to be concepts that enable one to chart the structural determinants of career mobility.
