Abstrakt: The article examines the role of mothers in constructing an understanding of justified or virtuous violence in the Harry Potter universe. Topics covered include how reactive violence is permissible when it can still be considered as defensive in Molly Weasley's execution of Bellatrix and Harry's use of the Unforgiveable Curse, how the mother figures of the book series condone the use of violence after Voldemort assumed power and the quest of Harry's mother to protect the next generation.
