Social media become very important part of the life of many people. This paper reports on the state of time spent online and usage of social media by students. The purpose of this study was to investigate 1) the average assessment of the social media usage, 2) the frequency of the social media usage, and 3) the average rank for all drawbacks of social media usage based on users' time-spent on social media. A survey was administered to 197 students from Warsaw University of Life Sciences -- SGGW, Faculty of Economic Sciences in April 2017. Collected data were analyzed among three groups of respondents divided according to time that they spend on the Internet each day. Descriptive statistics and non-parametric method of the Kruskal-Wallis test for testing the variance used for comparing three groups. Based on these results, respondents that spent more than 4 hours per day on the Internet have a better understanding of the purposes and drawbacks of social media use.
