Abstrakt: Eileen Dengler, executive director of the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association undertook an exhaustive search for a well-priced convention hotel, centrally located between New York and Virginia, with enough meeting and exhibition facilities to accommodate 1,000 attendees. Her quest led her to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In all, the two-day convention in Atlantic City last September was so successful that Dengler has rebooked for 2004 and 2005. Many venues have suffered big declines in meeting and convention business in the past three lean years, but not casinos. At the Borgata, 70,000 square feet of meeting space helped attract more than $35 million in conference business in the hotel's first three months of operation. Connecticut and Atlantic City casinos are undoubtedly taking more and more business away from New York City and neighboring suburban hotels.
