Drug holidays are sometimes recommended for children on medication. Recent research, however, indicates that taking weekends off their medication is often not the best plan for children and adolescents with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). One reason for drug holidays is that parents are sometimes concerned because children often lose weight when taking medication for ADHD, since the drug may suppress their appetites. In his book "The Myth of the A.D.D. Child," Thomas Armstrong, writes about the importance of understanding that not all intelligence can be measured by intelligence quotient tests, each child has a different way of learning. |
