Linear body measurements of LWY piglets viz., body length (BL), heart girth (HG), neck girth (NG), thigh girth (TG) and height at withers (HW) in centimeters and body weight (BW) in kilograms were recorded at fortnightly intervals. Results of the correlation coefficient showed highly significant (P<0.01) positive relationship of BW with HG (P<0.01; r=0.89), BL (P<0.01; r=0.84), NG (P<0.01; r=0.82), TG (p<0.01; r=0.75) and HW (P<0.01; r=0.70) respectively. Results of the stepwise regression showed that HG was a good estimator of BW followed by BL and NG. The comparison of residuals indicated that only three equations (HG, BL and NG) accurately predicted weaning weight of piglets. Hence, it was concluded that weaning weight of L WY piglets can be estimated using linear body measurement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
