A three year old Holstein Friesian crossbred dairy cow was brought to the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal with the history of jowl edema, dullness, voided small quantity of brownish foul smelling dung and anorexia for five days. The case was diagnosed as abomasal ulcer based on the clinical findings, occult blood test in faeces and managed therapeutically with antacids, antibiotics and blood transfusion.
