A total of 24 crossbred repeat breeding cattle with prolonged oestrum were selected at random and allotted into three groups with eight animals each. Animals in group I and II were administered intramuscularly, 1500 IU hCG (Chorulon) and 3000 IU hCG respectively, immediately after insemination at observed oestrum. The group III (control) animals were inseminated at observed oestrum without any hormone treatment. All the animals in treated and control group were re-inseminated after 24 h of first insemination. Pregnancy diagnosis was done in all groups at day 45-60 days following AI to assess the first service conception rate and it was 50, 12.5 and 25 per cent respectively. It is concluded that intramuscular administration of 1500 IUhCG immediately after insemination followed by re-insemination at 24 h interval could be employed for enhancing the conception rate in repeat breeding cattle exhibiting prolonged oestrum.
