Long Standing Laryngeal Foreign Body in a Child: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Abstrakt: Introduction: Foreign body aspiration in children always poses a challenge to medical practitioners. Making the correct diagnosis can be challenging, sometimes delayed. Objective: To report a long standing laryngeal foreign body in a child. Case summary: A 19-month-old child was diagnosed with laryngeal foreign body which was unrecognized for a year. The child endured multiple admissions in which she was treated as bronchiolitis. The discussion focuses on diagnostic challenges, clinical features and factors contributing in delay of diagnosis. Conclusion: With a proper clinical history and examination, supported with endoscopic study and high index of suspicion, the diagnosis foreign body aspiration in children are unlikely to be missed.
