Abstrakt: Female Veterans are the fastest growing demographic within the Veterans Affairs. Todays female Veteran is likely younger, likely deployed multiple times and may have posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Research indicates that women with PTSD are at a greater risk for experiencing postpartum depression. VA provides maternity services, but the care-givers are normally outside the VA health care system. For this reason, it is imperative that non-VA providers are aware of the increased risk of post-partum depression and tools that are available to screen and advocate for this unique population. Resources are available within the VA to assist these female heroes through a potentially difficult time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
