An essay is presented on the salient aesthetic and thematic tendencies in Kichwa language-poems. Particular focus is given on the collection of Kichwa poetry a "Amanece en nuestras vidas: It iwiakmarin tsawrai, Achikyamun hucanchik kawsayta," translated as "The Dawn of Our Lives." Also discussed is the surge in the publication of indigenous language poetry written by Kichwa women poets and the vital role of indigenous Ecuadorian women leaders within regional and national indigenous movements. |
