Rhinoscopic Diagnosis of Nasal Schistosomiasis and its Medical Management in a Cow.

Abstrakt: A jersey cross cow was brought to the hospital campus with bilateral blood tinged nasal discharge, dyspnea and snoring. Physical examination revealed granulomatous lesions in both nostrils. Examination of nasal washings showed boomerang shaped Schistosoma nasalis egg. Rhinoscopy revealed numerous granulomatous nodules tightly packed together obstructing both the nostrils and Histopathology of Rhinoscopy guided biopsy showed edematous lamina propria with goblet cell hyperplasia, anisocytosis, mitotic figures, infiltration of inflammatory cells and the cross section of the Schistosoma nasalis parasite. The animal was treated with Lithium antimony thiomalate once a week for three weeks with supportive therapy and finally the animal was given Praziquantel orally.
