Abstrakt: The Camoy's solution has been utilized in treatment of bones cavities after enucleation of maxillofacial cysts and tumor. The objective of the present study was to conduct a critical literature review comparing the surgical protocols using Carnoy's solution versus those who did not use this solution in odontogenic tumors of the jaws throughout a statistical evaluation. This study consisted of an electronic literature review (since January 1, 1956 until October 25, 2014) using the following sources: MEDLINE, Scopus, LILACS, BBO, and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. The keywords used were combined as follows: (jaw cyst) AND Camoy's; (tumor, odontogenic) AND Camoy's. The initial electronic data survey showed a total of 244 articles distributed among the databases according to the combinations of keywords set out in this study: MEDLINE (n = 57), Scopus (n = 165), LILACS (n = 17), BBO (n = 3), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (n = 2). Duplicate articles were excluded and additional literature was searched. At the end of the selection process, 18 studies related to the use of Camoy's solution as adjunctive surgical approach and which described the recurrence rates were selected for critical evaluation and data extraction. The present critical review showed a lack of studies with sufficient methodological quality to be obtained reliable results. Thus, further well-structured prospective clinical studies with long follow-up time in benign jaw odontogenic tumors with aggressive biological behavior will be necessary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
