This article profiles American gay diver Greg Louganis, who is considered by sportswriters, fellow athletes and fans to be the greatest diver in world history. In 1978, Louganis emerged as a preeminent diver, winning the platform championship at the World Aquatic Championship and the U.S. Diving indoor 1-meter and 10-meter titles. At the 1984 Olympic Games, Louganis captured gold medals in both the platform and springboard diving events. Louganis held an undefeated string of 3-meter springboard titles from 1981 to 1987. |
