Abstrakt: The article discusses about the meanings of commitment and objectivity. According to the author, commitment means accepting the practical consequences of one's beliefs. It means going the whole hog, whatever the matter in hand may be. From the point of view of the plain meaning of commitment, it does not matter whether the object be noble or ignoble. Objectivity, other than many other meanings, could also mean seeing things as they are and not as one would like or fear them to be. Objectivity in this sense is not easy. If one is in love, it is difficult to realize that one's beloved is a normal person, no better or more beautiful than many others. If the University Grants Committee has rejected one's cogently argued proposals for a new education building, and has come across with the cash for a social science building, one is tempted to conclude that there has been a failure in high places to appreciate true values, if not actually some dirty work. But, although it is always difficult to see the things one deeply cares about as they actually are, and not through colored spectacles, it is not impossible.
