Mechanical disintegration or shredding of waste is an important unit operation at all recycling plants, because this operation takes place at the beginning of the processing sequence and have a big impact on the efficiency of the downstream processing stages. In this study, shredding characteristics of four types of small domestic appliances; vacuum cleaners, electric heaters, fans and VCRs, were studied using two types of high-speed vertical impact mills at various settings on the discharge clearance. The resulting products were analyzed in terms of size, composition and liberation characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
