Abstrakt: The article presents experience of author who is a general practitioner about living in Italy. He was formerly working in Birmingham, England. The journey to Italy was no problem, in no time at all the author had got used to the idea of driving a 7.5 tonne truck full of furniture and one semi-comatose dog. Crossing the Channel as a freight passenger on a ferry has its compensations. But the main advantage is that schoolchildren are not allowed in, so the crossing is peaceful and comfortable. For everything in Italy, there is a regulation and for each of these, there may be a multitude of forms to fill out. To restrict the number of immigrants, the Italian government has centralized the system and so it now entails a 60-mile round trip to Pisa, Italy. Always remember that all Italian government offices are closed on Mondays. It is an effective way of keeping down the number of new residents. The pace of life is much slower.
