The article reports on how Chilean writer Vicente Huidobro uses satire and humor to make an ethical critique of humanizing rhetoric in his short story "La Cigüña Encadenada" or "The Chained Stork." Topics include influence of characters in stories on the quality and content of human lives, the writer's unavoidable connection to extra-textual reality, and the cultivation of dehumanization within the national consciousness through propaganda. |
