The article discusses the prospects of the United States transitioning to used nuclear fuel processing and recycling, and the need to begin the transition in the near future in order to allow for two-three decades for implementation and to facilitate the consideration of various options, including further nuclear power plant license extensions. It presents basics of nuclear fuel and fuel reprocessing technologies, along with a comparison of fuel reprocessing efforts by other countries. |
