Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare, highly malignant neuroendocrine cutaneous tumor. It is most commonly located in the head and neck area following by the extremities and has a high propensity to invade local lymphatics. We present a rare case of intramuscular Merkel cell carcinoma of the leg focusing on MR imaging findings. The mass had intermediate signal intensity on T1-weighted images, high on T2-weighted images and showed strong heterogeneous contrast enhancement after the administration of paramagnetic agent. Linear high signal strikes were radiating to the subcutaneous fat. Histopathologic study revealed an undifferentiated monomorphic cellular carcinoma (Merkel cell carcinoma). The differential diagnosis based on imaging findings is discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier] |
