The objective of this study was to evaluate endometrial cytology in concert with oxidative stress and antioxidant status. A total of 62 crossbred cows, consisting of 48 endometritis affected repeaters in group-I and 14 normal cows in group-II (control) were utilized. Cytological smears revealed significantly higher neutrophilic count in group-I than of group-II. The mean values of malon dialdehyde (MDA), vitamin-E and catalase followed a definitive pattern between groups, while superoxide dismutase (SOD) did not. The findings suggestive that under conditions of endometritis the antioxidant system was impaired, while oxidative stress reactions were accelerated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
