Abstrakt: The article considers the controversy in the historical decision of the U.S. government to use the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Japan in the 20th-century. It discusses reasons for the use of the atomic bomb that include political intimidation of the Russians and assertion of U.S. dominance in the post-war world, Japanese role and responsibility for the war's ending, and the legacy and unconditional surrender policy of former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt.
