Abstrakt: Explores the cultural representation of Native Americans and the environment in 'Sierra' magazine. Brief overview of the dominant Eurocentric portrayal of Native Americans as savage, noting the the enduring social and political functions served by this portrayal and its foundation in western dualism which separates humans from nature; Construction of the Native American culture and practices in 'Sierra' magazine; Conclusion that the magazine also reveals remaining boundaries to cultural undertstanding with important implications for rethorical critics and scholars of Native Ameriacns and environmental communication.
