Abstrakt: The article presents a comparative analysis on situations of state intervention in the sugar agroindustry of Brazil and Argentina in the 1880s. Various situations discussed include overproduction crisis, loss of international competitiveness, conflicts among the various actors and production zones. It further discusses analysis which started in between 1937-1938, Estado Novo in Brazil and laws for development of the sugar industry.
