PREVALENCE OF COLOR-BLINDNESS AMONG PRACTITIONERS OF ESTHETIC DENTISTRY IN KARACHI, PAKISTAN.

Abstrakt: Introduction: The aim of this cross sectional study was to determine the prevalence of color-blindness among dentists practicing esthetic dentistry in Karachi, Pakistan. Methods: A total of 283 participants were recruited in this study, out of which 183 were females and 100 were males. Each participant was tested for color-blindness using Ishihara plates. Prevalence in association with gender was recorded using Chi square test. Results: Out of the total number of subjects, 13 were found to be color-blind of which 10 were males and 3 were females, resulting in an overall prevalence of congenital red-green color vision deficiency (CVD) of 4.60% amongst dental practitioners in Karachi, Pakistan. Prevalence was 10.00% and 1.60% in males and females respectively. Conclusion: The male to female distribution showed a much higher prevalence amongst males and an almost insignificant prevalence amongst females. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
