Abstrakt: Warm weather increases the number of stinging insects (Hymenoptera), which serves as a source of anxiety for many people who work and play outdoors. Common Hymenoptera in the United States--bees, wasps, and fire ants--differ in aggressiveness, stinging method, and regional prevalence. Allergic reactions to stings range from mild (requiring palliative measures to relieve symptoms) to severe, possibly leading to anaphylactic shock requiring emergency medical intervention. A thorough understanding of sting treatment and appropriate patient education is essential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
