The classic Monteggia fracture is described as a fracture of the proximal third of the ulna with an anterior dislocation of the radial head. Since its original description, advances in medical knowledge and technologies have provided a greater understanding of this disorder. Inappropriate treatment requires extraordinary measures to return the elbow to its normal physiologic state.
