Research supports that medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self-management education (DSME) improve outcomes and prevent complications. Based on the findings of a small study conducted at Hackensack University Medical Center and current published research studies, valuable data to collect for outcomes research include baseline and completion HbAlc levels, diabetes medications, weights, body mass indices, and evaluation of behavior change goals. Secondary beneficial data to collect include demographics, heights, presence of hypertension and/or hypercholesterolemia, and months to complete DSME program. More outcomes research in the area of nutrition and diabetes will improve knowledge and help improve patient education strategies and clinical outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
