| Abstrakt: | Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism--the most common manifestations of venous thromboembolism -- can be life-threatening because of their often insidious onset. Diagnosis is based on a careful history and physical examination followed by targeted laboratory and radiographic studies for higher-risk patients. The primary therapeutic agents are heparin or oral anticoagulants along with judicious monitoring. Nondrug treatment includes intermittent compression devices and graded compression stockings.
