We investigated the cases of diarrheic disease and the sanitation status of the catchment area of the Family Health Program of Lima Duarte-MG, Brazil, during the period 2004-2006. Through descriptive epidemiology and correlation analyses, we observed a good sanitation coverage in the urban area of the municipality. The occurrence of diarrheic disease was not seasonal. Higher prevalence rates of diarrheic disease occurred at the same age ranges identified for the national population by the Ministry of Health, with a highlight for the decrease in the number of cases among those under the age of 5 years. "A" treatment plan predominated, indicating the occurrence of less severe cases. There was no correlation between diarrheic disease and sanitation status. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
