Abstrakt:	The article focuses on the significance of and outlines the quasi-legal process of weighing up whether a painting, sculpture, or other key object should be allowed to leave British shores. Topics discussed include the author's role as chairman of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest, the items that are under export deferral featured at the Arts Council England website, and how a consensus is reached from the committee's debates.
