The article reports on the Southern Netherlands and Franche-Comté Legation to the Holy See at the time of agent Laurent du Blioul during 1573-1598. The institution is studied under a socio-political perspective to discuss the place that it would take up within the Monarchia's Roman networks of power. It is argued that the legation is able to use, maintain and increase the royalty's influence on the city. It is opined that knowing how to use efficiently the available exogenous resources, the institution does not indicate the alleged Southern Netherlands's diplomatic decline. |
