Abstrakt: The authors offer their perspective as counsel on the April 2014 decision of the International Court of Justice in the Whaling in the Antarctic, Australia v Japan: New Zealand Intervening, case. The court decided that the Japan whaling programme in the Southern Ocean is in breach of the International Convention on the Regulation of Whaling. Focus is given on New Zealand's role, as an intervener under the provision in art 63 of the Statute of the Court, within the proceedings and its arguments.
