The article investigates genetic variation in the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) class II DRB gene of the Jamaican fruit-eating bat or Artibeus jamaicensis in Mexico. Topics discussed include the evidence that positive selection has a bigger influence in shaping MHC diversity among the species compared with evolutionary history, the role of MHC in forming vertebrate immune systems and the allelic diversity found in the species. |
